Aces and Ages

The history game for the whole car

Aces and Ages is a history game for a car full of people. One phone, held by a passenger, who reads each event out loud. Everyone else plays by ear: they say where it belongs among the events already on the line, and the passenger taps that spot. Get it right and the card joins the line with its year and a fact to read out. First to place their whole hand wins.

Questions

Does the driver have to look at the phone or touch it?

No, and they should not. The passenger holds the phone and reads each card aloud. The driver plays entirely by ear, and can ask the passenger to repeat the card, read back the line, or give the score. Tap the card at any moment to pause everything instantly. Only play when it is safe to talk, and stop whenever the road needs everyone’s attention.

Does it need a signal?

No. Aces and Ages works completely offline. It never connects to the internet, so it plays the same in the middle of nowhere as it does at home.

What does it collect?

Nothing. No account, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking. Saved app data includes player names, scores and settings. It is kept on this phone. We never receive it. If your phone is backed up to iCloud or a computer, the backup may include it, under your own backup settings. Read the full privacy policy.

Are all the years equally certain?

A few dates follow tradition or conventional dating. The reveal and spoken result say “by tradition” for traditional dates and “by the usual chronology” for conventional dates.

How many people can play?

One to four. One player is a practice mode. There are five decks, from Before 1500 to Since 1975, and a Junior setting for any seat that counts a placement one chip out as right.

How do I erase everything?

To remove app data on this device, open the menu and tap Erase all data at the bottom. Deleting the app also removes its data on this device. Existing iCloud or computer backups follow your backup settings.
